Advanced features

These features are not required for normal AstroNav Nano operation.

Use them only when there is a specific reason to do so.

Normal configuration and operation.

Recommended for first-time users.

Additional diagnostics, configuration tuning, and flight-data analysis.

Optional features for:

  • Manufacturing
  • Traceability
  • Device identity
  • Extended diagnostics
  • Testing

Functions that can directly energize hardware.

These require a controlled bench setup.

Production workflows may use:

generate_version.py
include/build_info.h

along with:

  • Warranty keys
  • Serial registry
  • OTP identity information

These can provide:

  • Serial numbers
  • Firmware metadata
  • Device traceability
  • Official warranty signatures

They are not required for normal local firmware development.

Serial monitoring can expose detailed:

  • Power state
  • Sensor health
  • Storage status
  • Flight state
  • Fault information

Use:

115200 baud

and keep hazardous hardware disconnected while diagnosing the board.

Set:

FIRE_PYRO_APOGEE=FALSE

to test:

  • Launch detection
  • State transitions
  • Apogee detection
  • Logging

without allowing the normal automatic apogee output.

PYROTEST directly tests the pyro output path.

This is a dangerous bench-test function.

The command must be sent twice within five seconds.

The resulting output pulse is limited to one second.

PYROTEST is only accepted outside USB storage mode and only while the firmware is in a permitted state.

It is intentionally not part of the normal beginner workflow.

GYROTEST checks that the gyroscope reports rotation correctly. It is read-only and never touches the pyro output.

It works only in Idle in flight mode (green LED), not in USB storage mode.

  1. Lay the board flat against a straight edge, such as a ruler, and wait for Idle.
  2. Send GYROTEST over serial.
  3. Within 10 seconds, slowly turn the board exactly 90° flat on the table, then hold it still.
  4. Read the result:
[GYROTEST] Result: x=-1.2 y=0.8 z=91.5 deg (turned 90 deg flat on the table: z should read about +-90)

The axis you turned around (normally z) should read about ±90. Turning speed does not matter. A value near 45 or 180 means the gyro scale is wrong: do not fly and report it.

If the board leaves Idle during the test, for example because a rough movement looked like a launch, the test is cancelled.
